Craig Monday is a songwriter’s songwriter. You can tell that by looking at the great songwriters who have recorded his songs including Jamey Johnson, Vince Gill, Randy Houser, Amy Grant, and Kenny Chesney. Craig grew up in Luttrell, Tennessee (which is also Kenny Chesney’s hometown). He moved to Nashville as a young adult and developed his talent not only as a songwriter, but also as a performer. Craig’s performances are filled with both good-natured humor and subtle beauty that always leaves a positive impression on the audience.
In fact, Craig’s song, “Heaven is a Small Town,” was the inspiration for the creation of a record label. When producer Jim Tract heard Craig perform the song at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the audience gasped, and then applauded the first time Craig sang the chorus. “I was stunned,” said Tract, “It was very, very special. I became obsessed with making sure people got to hear this song, and one thing just led to another.” And thus, Adroit Records was created to feature Nashville songwriters.
Craig’s co-writers include a who’s-who of successful Nashville writers including Chris Wallin, Wynn Varble, Anthony Smith, Aaron Barker, the aforementioned Jamey Johnson, etc.
